Mel Day

Mel is a well known and respected musician both locally and nationally. He is an extremely talented interpretive vocalist with a rich, varied and soulful blues/rock voice, which he employs with exact finesse. He is also a useful harmonica player and no slouch when it comes to songwriting. You can hear some of his superb vocal output on the ‘Pig’n’aif Blue’, ‘Pig’n’aif Blue-ish ‘, ‘Handover’ and ‘Musicalis Grumpiosa’ albums.

Originally based in Southampton, he started his musical career with Earth Angels, Volume 4 and The Combustion. He moved north and worked with Mr. Breeze and The Fantastics (the house band for the American Programme Bureau supporting The Four Seasons and Temptations on UK tours etc.). He was also vocalist in the well known Orange Rainbow who, in addition to gigging in their own right, were the support band to The 5th Dimension. Mel has branched out during his career into comedy (some of us cynics think he never left - but that’s another story). Of course Mel was also in Phoenix Rising with Pete.

Mel said, ”I am very pleased with the way the ‘Pig'n'aif Blue’ album has turned out. It has made me feel 10 years younger (goodness knows he needed it - just joking honestly) and I am really looking forward to the next one”.

Mel uses any old P.A. that is stuck in front of his face.
